Julia has been growing and learning like crazy lately! She is DYING to be able to read and write. I have done some preschool work with her off and on, but have only gotten to the letter G. The other day she was begging to do some preschool, and I had an idea: the walls around our home are cement, and are PERFECT for sidewalk chalk – she could practice her letters on a large scale. I wrote her name on the wall, and then left her to practice it. This is what I came back to: her name, first letter in the middle, then one to the left, two to the right and back to the left for the last one!
She did write it correctly once I explained that all the letters HAVE to be in the order I wrote them for them to be her name. Then it rained and it all got washed away before I got a picture of it.
The NEXT day – wish I had a pic of this (rained again before I got to it)– she was asking to practice her name again. I was in the middle of something and asked her to give me a minute to finish up. She said OK, and then about a minute later said, “It’s OK, Mom – I think I remember how to write it.” And sure enough, she wrote her name with the letters formed correctly and in the right order! Boy was I proud of her (and I take no credit!)!
