Water Trouble

Early March Josh had to go interior to help one of our more mature tribal churches straighten out some “books” that were in question.  It’s always interesting to see what will crop up just before he leaves (not to mention while he’s gone…).  This time, the generator didn’t want to work (a semi-regular issue), and, the NIGHT BEFORE, around 11 PM, we realized that our water tank was empty.  The water taps had been spitting and hissing for a while already, but that often happens when the power goes out and the lines get emptied, so we didn’t think much of it, but suddenly there I was about to get into the shower, and there was NO water!  Josh grabbed his big flashlight and headed to the garage.  We are fortunate to have a water storage tank under the garage.  We do get water from the city, but this is a way to make sure we have water if the city runs into a temporary shortage.  Josh opened up the lid of the tank and checked – sure enough – no water.  We went to bed with “drinking water sponge baths”.

The next morning he got his swimming trunks on and went “water tank spelunking”.  Sure enough, the bobber thing that regulates the water levels was stuck on full and the tank was empty.  He “unstuck” it and the water started flowing.

It would be nice if that was the end of the story, but that would be too easy!  He left to catch his flight into the tribe and I kept an eye on the garage.  2 days later the tank was full, and suddenly overflowing!  Not too much got wet in the garage as the kids were playing in there (since we don’t have a car) when it started overflowing.  I turned off the water from the city and when Josh got home, we waited until we’d used enough so that he could go back into the tank and replace the bobber.

Josh putting the VERY HEAVY lid back on the tank.

For the grandmas:  the kids could never take the lid off so they're safe...

We’re fortunate that he's so slenderor  he would never have gotten into the tank!  It was hard enough for him to get his shoulders into it.  I would NEVER have wanted to get into it as I’m totally claustrophobic!
