Fruit Run and Nasi Tim

One evening we took Tamara out for Nasi Tim.  The street where we usually go for that often has great fruit, and it did this time too.
We picked up some mangosteen...

...rambutan...

...and durian!
To pick out a good durian you give it a sniff!
You have to be very careful about the spikes, they really could cut you.

Gotta stay hydrated!
Nasi tim - rice with a layer of mushrooms and tiny chunks of chicken, then another layer of rice. It's topped with some boiled peanuts and a side of broth that you pour over before you eat it.  Comfort food!

Digging in!
We all saved room for the fruit course back home in our yard.
Opening a mangosteen for Tamara
Josh opened up the durian - the smell is overpowering and distinctive!

Cutting open a rambutan for Tamara - you can also dig in with your fingernails to pry them open.
There's a seed inside that you eat around or spit out.

I have not seen mangosteen here yet, and I haven't been brave enough to try durian. I like rambutan, but prefer Lansonies.
